Who is Saint Timothy?
Saint Timothy was a close companion of the Apostle Paul, a trusted leader in the early Church, and the recipient of the biblical letters 1 & 2 Timothy. Born in Lystra, he was the son of a Greek father and a Jewish mother, which made him an outsider in the eyes of many. Yet, through the faith of his mother Eunice and grandmother Lois, Timothy grew into a devoted follower of Christ. Despite being young, reserved, and in fragile health, Timothy accepted God’s calling and became one of Paul’s most valued co-workers. He journeyed alongside Paul for fifteen years, helping to establish and strengthen Christian communities, including the Church in Corinth. Paul spoke of Timothy with deep affection, writing, “I have no one like him who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare” (Philippians 2:20). Timothy later became the first bishop of Ephesus, serving faithfully for many years. He remained steadfast in his witness to Christ, even to the point of martyrdom, when he was beaten and stoned for opposing pagan worship. At Saint Timothy’s Episcopal Church, we take inspiration from our patron’s faith, perseverance, and pastoral heart, striving to be a community that welcomes, nurtures, and serves others with the same love and dedication.
